OHS girls remain perfect

A strong first quarter and another team effort helped lift the Oxford Lady Chargers basketball squad to a 67-36 win over Ashland Tuesday night. The Chargers weren’t as fortunate as they as they fell 61-57 to Ashland in the nightcap.Erika Sisk led Oxford’s girls with 29 points, while Lameisha Gillom and Tyra Lewis each scored 10 points for the Lady Chargers, who moved to 8-0 on the year. Oxford jumped out to a 25-2 lead on the Lady Blue Devils in the first quarter and was able to coast from that point.

Justin Fondren led the Chargers with 21 points in the loss. Luke Gibbs had 11 points, while DeShaun McNeal scored eight points. Ashland was led by Ted Parker’s 17 points, while Darius Dukes had 16.

Oxford’s ninth-grade boys team earned a win to remain perfect at 3-0. Darrius Liggins scored 13 points in the 49-34 win, while Darryl King and Tre’ Anderson both finished with nine points. Oxford will be back in action with varsity games at Tupelo on Friday starting at 6 p.m. (December 1, 2010, Page 7)
