SPORTS EDITOR BLOG — Going 16-0 and winning the Class 4A state title in 2010 opened some new doors for the Lafayette Commodores’ football program from a scheduling standpoint.Lafayette coach Anthony Hart got a call Friday to participate in a regular season football classic game against perennial power Evangel Christian Academy of Shreveport, La., on Sept. 10, 2011. The game will be played in Shreveport’s Independence Bowl at 11 a.m. The game will be the first of three games played in the stadium that day. No TV has been announced yet, but there have been preliminary discussions about the game being broadcasted across the nation.
“This was just a tremendous opportunity for our football team and our program. We had to take it,” said Hart, who got a call about playing the game on Friday and immediately started working on his schedule to accommodate the request to play Evangel, a 12-time champion in the state of Louisiana.
Evangel finished the 2010 season with a 12-2 record, including a 28-14 win over John Curtis in the Class 2A title game. (December 18, 2010)
