Local columnist T.J. Ray writes that some of the biggest challenges to driving locally are not other cars, but actually people riding bicycles. He wonders about rules of the road and insurance as cyclists take their spots on the roadways. (December 9, 2010, Page 4)

Thank you for addressing this. I enjoy riding my bike around town occasionally and I completely support efforts to make drivers more aware of bicyclists, however, this MUST go hand in hand with some sort of education and enforcement of bicyclists obeying the rules of the road.
I too have experienced the kamikaze cyclists riding directly into oncoming traffic, along the painted line separating traffic lanes, going the wrong way down a one way street and running stop signs. And let’s not forget about the ones who seem to think that crosswalks are for bicycles.. Only once have I seen a bicyclist actually signal before turning (as required by law).
I should not be held responsible for the safety of someone who doesn’t know the rules of riding a bicycle.
