Woods, Rangers honored by NJCAA

SPORTS EDITOR BLOG — One of the most special seasons in Ricky Woods‘ coaching career ended up earning him the MACJC North Coach of the Year, while 10of his Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers earned All-State and All-Region XXIII honors.Players who were honored on the All-State first team included wide receiver Myles White, offensive linemen Courtney Easterwood and Jonathan Hardin and tight end Jamal Mosely, who is an Ole Miss verbal commitment. Place-kicker/punter Kevin Buford was named to the first team. Jamontay Pilson, Sam Small and Brandon Lawrence were named to the first team on defense. Pilson anchored the Rangers’ line, Small the linebacking unit and Lawrence the backfield. All three defensive players earned recognition on the All-Region team as sid White and Buford. Small and Pilson were also named MVPs at their respective position in the North.

Quarterback Brent Osborn and defensive back Michael McKinney were both named to the second team All-State team. The Rangers finished the year with a 9-1 overall record and No. 9 final ranking in the NJCAA Top 20 poll. (November 16, 2010)
