Ole Miss women return to NCAA Tournament

The Ole Miss women’s volleyball team will be making its third NCAA Tournament appearance in program history — and third in the past five seasons — when Ole Miss takes on North Carolina in the first round at California-Berkley.

The first-round matchup will take place on Friday. The winner of the match will face the winner of Cal-Berkley and Utah State in the second round on Saturday. North Carolina enters with a 24-9 overall mark and a 15-5 mark in the ACC. (November 29, 2010, Page 4B)

Lady Rebels top Illinois, finish 2-1 in Hawaii’s Showdown tournament

The Ole Miss women’s basketball team posted a 70-61 win over Illinois in the third-place game of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahnie Showdown Sunday in Hawaii.

With the win, Ole Miss improves to 5-2 while Illinois fell to 3-4.

Valencia McFarland led Ole Miss with a career-high 24 points and added five rebounds and four assists. Kayla Melson added a career-high 21 points and nine assists. (November 29, 2010, Page 4B)

Shopping for the hard-to-shop-for

Christmas Memorial Program

Arts & Crafts Fair

North Oxford Baptist Church will host its annual Arts & Crafts Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at its Family Life Center. Numerous vendors will offer a variety of items, including baked goods, jewelry, jams and jellies, woodwork, florals, arts, gifts and photography. For more information, call 234-1101. Walking Wednesdays

Every Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. (weather permitting), students can enjoy a healthy alternative to get to school by walking and participating in the Safe Routes to School program. Children can be dropped off between 7:15 – 7:30 a.m. at the following locations: Bramlett Elementary School students meet at the Lafayette County Chancery Building; Oxford Elementary School students meet at the OE Walking Track at the back of the school; Della Davidson Elementary School students meet at the Oxford Conference Center; and Oxford Middle School students meet at the Oxford Activities Center. Holiday Group Exhibit Reception

Southside Gallery will feature paintings, ceramics, sculptures, furniture and photographs by many local and regional artists from Tuesday through Jan. 10.  A reception will be held Thursday from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. (November 29, 2010)

OSD Orchestra Concert

The Oxford School District orchestra students will present a Holiday Concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Oxford High School auditorium. Strings students in grades 6 through 12 will perform several holiday selections. OHS orchestra students will perform traditional holiday favorites in addition to a carol “sing-a-long” with audience participation. Admission is free. Art Show

The Oxford Artist’s Guild’s Biggest Baddest Art Show continues its run at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center through today.
