Blue Devils roll past Corinth in 3A playoffs

SPORTS EDITOR BLOG – Water Valley won its first game in this year’s Class 3A playoffs with a 28-0 win over Corinth Friday night at Bobby Clark Field.The Blue Devils improved to 10-2 overall on the season with the win and advanced to the second round to meet Ruleville in the second round. Water Valley’s defense pounded the Warriors (4-7) into submission by holding them to under 150 yards.

WVHS had three runners rush for over 70 yards. The effort was led by Eric Buckley, who had 126 yards and a touchdown on just 12 carries, and quarterback E.J. Bounds, who finished with 96 yards and 11 carries. Bounds also threw for a touchdown pass to C.J. Jackson in the win, while Torrey Horton, the Blue Devils’ leading rusher all season, tacked on 73 yards and a score. (November 6, 2010)
