The Lafayette Commodores (10-0, 5-0) stormed past the Rosa Fort Lions (7-3, 3-3) 42-7 on Friday night. With the win, the Commodores won Region 2-4A.The commodores started out sluggish in the first quarter allowing the Lions to get an early 7-0 lead.
As the Commodores have done throughout the season, they responded when facing adversity.
The Commodores took their first lead with 7:33 left in the second quarter. Commodores quarterback Jeremy Liggins dropped back and threw a hard ball to Anfernee Gooch, who was running a slant pattern. Gooch made two Lions defenders miss, running 36 yards on the touchdown reception.
After Liggins came up hobbling from an ankle injury, the Commodore offense relied heavily on running back Demarkus Dennis. Dennis had 29 carries for 186 yards and three touchdowns.
The commodores return home Thursday night to face the Patriots of Lewisburg (4-6, 2-3). The Commodores look to finish the regular season undefeated. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. (October 23, 2010)
