LHS’ Gooch too much for Millington Central

MILLINGTON, Tenn. — After surrendering a 79-yard punt return for a score the Lafayette Commodores bounced back in a big way, ripping off 35 unanswered points to top the Millington Central (Tenn.) Trojans 35-6.The star of the game for Lafayette was 5-foot-6, 145-pound receiver Anfernee Gooch. Time and time again quarterback Jeremy Liggins was able to connect with the compact receiver and by the end of the night Gooch had touchdown receptions of 59, 9, 55 and 49 yards. With the exception of the 9-yard score, Liggins would hit Gooch 15-20 yards down field and then the senior receiver would do the rest of the work by weaving his way through the Trojans’ secondary.

Lafayette’s only other score on the night came on a fourth-and-goal keeper by Liggins.

Lafayette (9-0 overall) returns to region play on Friday, traveling to Rosa Fort for a 7 p.m. kickoff. (October 16, 2010)
