Thanks in large part to sophomore QB Brandon Mack and junior running back Demarkus Dennis, the Lafayette Commodores concluded their regular season with a dominant 37-7 victory over the Lewisburg Patriots. With junior quarterback Jeremy Liggins sidelined to rest a sore ankle, Mack picked up the slack by passing for 64 yards and a touchdown, rushing for another 64 yards and two scores. He also intercepted Lewisburg QB Colby Sappington inside LHS’ 10-yard line to fend off a Patriots scoring attempt.
Dennis, meanwhile, rushed for 167 yards and one score on 19 carries. Eight of Dennis’ carries went for 14-yards or more.
With the win, Lafayette (11-0 overall, 6-0 Region 2-4A) now gets to play the waiting game. Next Friday the Commodores will open its playoff run with a home meeting against either North Pontotoc or Pontotoc, depending on the winner of their head-to-head meeting Friday. (October 28, 2010)
