Lafayette’s JV runners win cross country titles

Lafayette’s junior varsity boys and girls cross country teams finished first in the East Union/Mrytle Cross Country Challenge held Saturday at the New Albany Sportsplex.The varsity Lady Commodores finished third out of nine teams overall, while the varsity boys team had three runners win individual titles.

Rachel Starnes and Peyton Hamann finished first and second respectively in the junior varsity girls race for Lafayette. Starnes won the 2.5 mile race with a time of 17 minutes, 11 seconds, while Hamann finished with a 17:42.

Nikki Kesler, Erin McChesney and Ashley Cranford helped score points for the team.

The junior varsity Commodores had five runners finish in the top 12. T.J. Hollis finished third, Austin Fikes was sixth, Wes Brown was seventh, Jacob Roberts was 10th, while Travis Lyles was 12th. (October 4, 2010, Page 5B)
