Blue Devils defeat Mooreville

SPORTS EDITOR BLOG — Three interceptions from Chris Conard as well a 93-yard run for a touchdown by C.J. Jackson were some of the big plays turned in by the Water Valley Blue Devils in their 20-10 win over Mooreville Friday night. The Blue Devils overcame a sluggish performance on offense by securing five turnovers on defense in the regular-season finale for both teams. WVHS (9-2 overall) jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first half on short touchdown runs from quarterback E.J. Bounds and Torrey Horton.

Bounds’ TD capped an 11-yard drive with a 1-yard score at the 5:28 mark of the first quarter, while Horton’s 8-yard TD capped a seven-play, 31-yard drive at the 4:35 mark of the second quarter. Both scores were set up by interceptions from Conard.

Jackson’s TD put the Blue Devils ahead 20-3 early in the fourth quarter following a holding penalty that pushed them back inside the 10. WVHS then iced the win when Conard intercepted Griffin Loftis for the third time with just over two minutes left in the contest.

WVHS will return to action in the Class 3A playoffs Friday at home against Corinth. (October 30, 2010)
