Rebels short on intangibles this year

It may not be quite time to hit the panic button for the Ole Miss Rebels, but the situation they find themselves in is far, far from ideal.

No team wants to lose its first two home games of the season especially in the manner the Rebels have done so. General miscues, which include missed assignments and turnovers, continued to hurt a team that is less talented than the first two coach Houston Nutt has led. It’s one thing for the offense to be where it is after the first three games with the loss of standouts such as Dexter McCluster, but it’s a head scratcher as to why the Rebels’ defense has played as it has. Missed assignments are a part of the game, but for a unit that has as much experience up front as it does, the reasons as to why breakdowns are happening is almost impossible to understand.

For linebacker D.T. Shackelford, the missed assignments fall squarely on the player’s shoulders and the unit’s lack of execution. (September 20, 2010, Page 1B)
