Chargers get hot, roll to win over Senatobia

SPORTS EDITOR BLOG — Two touchdowns in a span of 11.8 seconds expanded a slim lead into a comfortable 21-point lead at the half for the Oxford Chargers, who beat Senatobia 35-7 Friday night. The offensive explosion that led to the 21-point cushion and enabled the Chargers to post their one-sided win was sparked by the passing of Guy Cameron Billups and receiver Stan Ivy, who caught both TD passes in the 11 second span that turned a 7-0 lead into 21-0.

Ivy had a huge night overall for the Chargers. He not only had four receptions for 96 yards, he returned the opening kickoff in the second half for an 86-yard touchdown. Oxford (3-1) scored its first touchdown on a 6-yard pass from Billups to DeShaun McNeal at the 9:02 mark of the second quarter.

The Chargers capped their scoring efforts on the night midway through the third quarter when Jeoffrey Gordon ran for a 7-yard TD.

Oxford will be off this week before returning to action against Region 1-5A foe New Hope Sept. 24. (September 11, 2010)
