SPORTS EDITOR BLOG — Water Valley ended its non region schedule with a 33-6 win over Independence Friday night at Independence.The Blue Devils (5-1 overall) scored 27 unanswered points on the Wildcats with 21 points coming in the second half of Friday’s game. E.J. Bounds continued to show his maturity at quarterback for the Blue Devils as he rushed for a 71 yard touchdown and threw for another score in the one-sided win. Tight end Adam Langham was the target of the TD throw that covered 37 yards and put the Blue Devils ahead 19-6 early in the third quarter.
Running back Torrey Horton had another big game on the ground for the Blue Devils as he totaled 105 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Horton rushed for 73 yards after the half, while the Blue Devils totaled 304 yards on the ground.
WVHS will be back in action against Region 2-3A foe Nettleton Friday on the road. (September 25, 2010)
