MARY KIMMONS PATTERSON – 94, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at Hermitage Gardens in Oxford. Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 at noon in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with the Rev. Coach pleads not guilty to sex charges
Alabama high school football coach Dwight Bowling has pleaded not guilty to charges of having sexual relationships with minors and attempting to get one of his victims to lie to investigators about their relationship.
Looking disheveled and 10 years older than his 55 years, Bowling, entered the not guilty plea Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Oxford before Magistrate S. Allan Alexander via his attorney Christi McCoy of Oxford. (September 30, 2010, Page 1)
County officials warn residents against burning in dry weather
County officials were hoping to get an official burn ban in place for Lafayette County this morning at a special meeting of the Board of Supervisors; however, not enough supervisors were at the meeting to reach the quorum needed to approve the ban.
Three out of five supervisors are necessary to vote on anything official. Supervisors Robert Blackmon and Lloyd Oliphant were the only supervisors present at the meeting.
The item will be placed on the agenda for Monday’s regular meeting at 9 a.m. at the Chancery Building. (September 30, 2010, Page 1)

Focus a big part of LHS gameplan
Focus was a big reason for the Lafayette Commodores’ 52-0 win over Byhalia last Friday night. A week after getting off to a slow start against Center Hill, the Commodores jumped on the Indians quickly en route to the one-sided win.
