Oxford’s Hicks doing well at FSU

SPORTS EDITOR BLOG — Former Oxford High standout Dan Hicks is performing well and enjoying his time being a member of the Florida State football team. I was able to catch up with Hicks today with a phone interview. The former Charger, who not only played football but basketball and ran track for OHS, said he is currently second on the depth chart at defensive and and up to 265 pounds.

He said that he likes his new head coach, Jimbo Fisher, and said that Fisher really cares about the players. Last season, Hicks’ first in Tallahassee, he was named Scout Team MVP on defense.

“I know a lot of people didn’t expect a lot from me when I was coming out of high school. I was just a two-star recruit, but I was able to show my potential on the scout team and I was able to move up the depth chart,” Hicks said.
According to FSU’s football contact, Hicks performed very well in the latest scrimmage and has a legitimate shot to see quality playing time as a redshirt freshman.

For more on the interview with Hicks, check out next week’s EAGLE. (August 27, 2010)
