I am passionate about football. The August heat reminds me of long, hot two-a-day practices. There is nothing like the smell of the field after it has been mowed and freshly painted before the first game. I have always enjoyed the excitement within the community as everyone counts down the days to the first ballgame.
Since I am no longer coaching, I have been able to shift my enthusiasm to Ole Miss football. Needless to say, I have been very interested in all of the media attention surrounding the transfer of the new quarterback. I am never surprised by what commentators, sportswriters and fans say and rarely surprised at what their motivation is
A fan of another SEC school probably thinks Jeremiah Masoli shouldn’t be allowed to walk on at Ole Miss. It might be said that Kirk Herbstreit’s love for Ohio State keeps him from being able to say anything positive about the SEC. A sportswriter may decide that the way to sell an article is to be critical of Houston Nutt and his decision. (August 5, 2010, Page 6)
