Voting ends for UM mascot

Soon Ole Miss fans may have a new mascot. Voting for the new University of Mississippi mascot ended at 5 p.m. on Tuesdy. Good luck to the Student Mascot Selection Committee who will begin the huge task of tallying and analyzing more than 12,000 results from voters. (July 8, 2010, Page 1A)

Please reconsider the choices for Ole Miss mascot. None of the names fit The University of Mississippi. ‘Hotty Toddy’ is the only name that in the least describes the tradition of Ole Miss. How would a hotty toddy be represented in mascot form? Couldn’t the mascot just be called the ‘Colonel’….dress him in gray and blue coat, this would represent the south and north. You can not offend people if both sides are represented. Ole Miss will be losing the tradtion that has brought about change. Change can be a wonderful thing but only if it does not offend the opposition in the process. Horse, Lion,Bear…none of these are approiate. Land Shark? are you kidding me? If you will not agree on Colonel, please for all our sakes agree on Hotty Toddy.
