SPORTS EDITOR BLOG — In a little over a week, the unofficial start of football in the Southeastern Conference will get underway at the annual SEC Media Days, which is also known as Kickoff 2010.This year three players will join their respective head coach at the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover, Ala., to talk about the upcoming season. In past years, two players, one from each side of the ball, would come to talk about their teams, so the addition is new and welcomed by the media.
Representing Ole Miss this year at the event will be senior defensive end Kentrell Lockett, senior defensive tackle Jerrell Powe and junior offensive tackle Bradley Sowell. Lockett always has something good to say and getting his thoughts from each press conference is a must. Powe figures to make the All-SEC list as a member of the first team, while it will be Sowell’s job to talk up a Rebel offense that is having to replace several starters from last year’s Cotton Bowl team.
Of course OM head coach Houston Nutt will be on present in Hoover to talk football to the media mass that included over 900 representatives from the print, TV and radio worlds last year. Stay tuned to my blog for daily coverage on Media Days as well as a number of stories that can be found on the Rebels, Mississippi State Bulldogs and the rest of SEC football in the paper next week.
