LUES Open House

Lafayette Upper Elementary School will host an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. All parents and students are invited to attend. All third-grade students who have not registered will need to do so and bring two current proofs of residency. The following will be accepted as proofs of residency: filed homestead exemption form, mortgage documents or property deed, apartment or home lease (handwritten notes not accepted), utility bills (cell phone bills not accepted), valid driver’s license and automobile tag registration. ‘Tailgate’ fundraiser

Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt and Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen will join together as alumni and fans of both MSU and the UM at the “Tailgate Together For Our Kids” fundraiser at the BancorpSouth Conference Center in Tupelo to benefit local Boys and Girls Clubs.

Those in attendance at the Saturday event will have an opportunity to meet players, hear both coaches talk about their upcoming seasons and also participate in a silent auction of school memorabilia. Dinner tickets are available for $50. Also, an exclusive cocktail hour will be held from 6-7 p.m. which will include personal meet and greets with coaches, photos and more for an additional $50. Red Cross

The American Red Cross will offer an Adult, Child and Infant CPR/AED/First Aid community class from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The cost of the class is $50. All classes are held at the Red Cross Office at 106 Skyline Drive. Interested participants should contact the Red Cross office at 236-1282 to register. Eddie Wayne Vance Band to rock Rooster’s this Saturday

OXFORD TOWN – Local musician Eddie Wayne Vance and his band are set to play Rooster’s Blues House on Saturday, July 31. The young and edgy jazz band has been tearing up the region with its high-performance show featuring Vance and his saxophone. ‘Field of Dreams’ to play in ‘perfect setting’

OXFORD TOWN – It’s been 21 years since “Field of Dreams” first hit the big screen but like with all great cinema, its classic nature allows us to enjoy it today. A movie as much about daring to dream as it is about baseball, “Field of Dreams” will finish out the summer’s Movies in the Park series hosted by the Oxford Park Commission. (July 29, 2010, Page 10)

Acrobats to perform

Recognized as the premier Chinese acrobatic touring company, the Golden Dragon Acrobats are slated to perform Friday at the University of Mississippi’s Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts.

The Golden Dragons have traveled the world, performing in all 50 states and more than 65 countries on five continents. Designed and choreographed by Danny Chang and Angela Chang, the show is a combination of award-winning acrobatics, traditional dance, spectacular costumes, ancient and contemporary music, and theatrical techniques.

The show is set for 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for 18 and under, all general admission. ‘Movie Night’

The Oxford Park Commission and Oxford Film Festival will host the final “Movie Night” in the parks of the summer this week. The movie, “Field of Dreams,” will be screened Friday at FNC Sports Complex.

The film is free due to sponsorships by Newks, the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oxford Printwear and Oxford Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.

Live music will be performed before the film is shown. Music is sponsored by the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council. On Friday, Donovan McCain and the Troubadour Band will provide the live music.

Summer Reading Program Party

The Lafayette County & Oxford Public Library reminds those who have participated in this year’s Summer Reading Program that Friday is the deadline to turn in their completed reading record. To mark the end of this year’s Summer Reading Program, the library will host a party at 10:30 a.m. Friday with cake and refreshments and Reggie the Reading Raccoon. OXFORD TOWN – They’re finally here! Recognized as the premier Chinese acrobatic touring company, the Golden Dragon Acrobats are slated to perform this Friday (July 30) at the University of Mississippi’s Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts.
