LB Mayers makes No. 9

Just one day after landing Raleigh receiver Donte Moncrief, the Rebels added another commitment for the 2011 signing class. According to The Blog’s friends over at OMSpirit.com and RebelGrove.com, Taylorsville outside linebacker Marcus Mayers committed to Ole Miss this morning.

Mayers is a 6-foot-2, 195-pounder and is the second Ole Miss linebacker to commit, joining Sederious Bryant from Florida.

The additions of Mayers and Moncrief make the number of Magnolia State commitments four. (By comparison, Ole Miss signed seven in-state kids in 2010, nine if you count Mississippi community college products Randall Mackey and Wayne Dorsey.)

Mayers and Bryant will add depth to Ole Miss’ linebacker corps, which will be graduating starters Allen Walker and Jonathan Cornell.

According to Rivals.com, Mayers had offers from Alabama, Oklahoma, Mississippi State and Southern Miss.

HERE is yesterday’s blog entry regarding Moncrief committing.

OTHER COMMITS: With Mayer’s commitment, the Rebels’ list is now at nine, including: WR Donte Moncrief, S Chief Brown, LB Sederius Bryant, OL Mitch Hall, DB Gerrod Holliman, C Ethan Hutson, DB Andrew Johnson and S Cody Prewitt(July 19, 2010)
