Yarbrough’s late homer lifts Rebels

No. 16 Ole Miss scored early and often in it’s 11-10 victory over the Murray State Thoroughbreds on a chilly Tuesday night at Oxford-University Stadium.

After surrendering an early 10-1 lead to force extra innings, Ole Miss freshman second baseman homered to lead off the 10th inning to lift the Rebels its late win.

The Rebels scored at least one run in each of the first five innings, with solo home runs by Tim Ferguson and Matt Smith in the fifth inning to take a 10-1 lead.

Murray State jumped back into the game in the top of the seventh, plating six runs off of freshman Jordan Cooper and another off of Matt Tracy, bringing the score to 10-8 in favor of the Rebels.

In the top of the ninth, the Thoroughbreds tied the game, scoring two runs when first baseman Miles Hamblin could not handle a throw from third baseman Zach Miller for what would have been the final out of the game.

Ole Miss starter Matt Crouse continued to perform well.

The sophomore allowed one run on four hits and two walks in 6.0 innings of work while also striking out eight batters to tie his season high.

Ole Miss will return to action Wednesday, hosting UT-Martin at 6:30 p.m. (April 27, 2010)
