Even on a night when Ole Miss All-American Drew Pomeranz didn’t have his A-game, the No. 11 Ole Miss Rebels were still able to find a way to win, defeating the Tennessee Volunteers 7-3 Friday at Oxford-University Stadium.Pomeranz won the battle between SEC aces, allowing three runs on five hits and six walks in 7.0 innings. He also struck out seven batters.
Tennessee lefty Bryan Morgado fell to 2-3 on the year, allowing six runs on four walks and 10 hits in 6.0 innings of work while also striking out seven.
Ole Miss shortstop Kevin Mort proved to have a potent bat tonight, going 4-for-4 with two runs scored in the game, while both Tim Ferguson and Matt Smith hit home runs for the Rebels.
Ole Miss reliever Brett Huber came on in the eighth inning to close the game out for the Rebels. In 2.0 innings, Huber allowed two hits while striking out three batters.
Ole Miss will return to action on Saturday, hosting Tennessee at 4 p.m.
