Ole Miss baseball’s Haltom earns honor

Ole Miss catcher Scott Haltom will be awarded the Taylor Medal on Thursday at the University’s Honors Convocation.

According to a University press release, the Taylor Medal recognizes outstanding academic performance and is given to no more than one percent of the student body. To be considered, a student must have a grade-point average of at least 3.85.

Haltom is not the first in his family to receive the prestigious honor. His father, James, received the medal in Biology, while his mother, Susan, received two medals in Art and French.

“I’m excited and honored to receive the Taylor Medal, especially since both my parents were Taylor Medalists at Ole Miss,” Haltom said in the release. “My parents have always been very supportive of me throughout my academic and athletic career.”

Haltom is a native of Ridgeland and holds a 3.96 GPA. (April 6, 2010)
