SPORTS EDITOR BLOG — S ophomore forward Murphy Holloway will be leaving the Ole Miss men’s basketball team so that he can get closer to his infant daughter and mother who helps raise the child.
Holloway told Ole Miss coach Kennedy that he was planning to transfer today so that he could be closer to his infant daughter, who is currently living with Holloway’s mother and his girlfriend in South Carolina. Holloway, who is a native of Irmo, S.C., said the decision to leave Oxford and his teammates was tough.
“It was tough. It’s something that’s been on my mind for a while. I felt like I had to make a move on it. I like being here, it’s a great place but unfortunately, my family called and said they needed me,” Holloway said. “I’m gone. It’s a family situation. I have a little girl. I have to take responsibility to her to go and take care of her. My mom and them need help so that’s what I’m doing.”
Holloway averaged 10.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game this season. He started 30 of the Rebels’ 34 games and finished sixth among Southeastern Conference players with eight double-doubles. (April 30, 2010)
