SPORTS EDITOR BLOG — Ole Miss running back/wide receiver Dexter McCluster is now a Kansas City Chief. The 5-foot-10, 172-pound McCluster was selected by the Chiefs as the 36th overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft Friday evening. McCluster was the first player from Ole Miss to be selected in this year’s draft and the first player from the Southeastern Conference to be selected on the second day of the draft.
Many experts thought McCluster would be drafted in the second round, but later than the 36th pick. Several teams liked his speed and his ability to make defenders miss in the open field, including the Philadelphia Eagles, who were reportedly very disappointed that McCluster was not around when they selected No. 37 overall.
