The Lafayette middle school baseball team advanced to the championship game of its district playoff tournament Monday night with a 6-5 win over Marshall Academy in seven innings.
Lafayette, now 10-1-2 on the year, will play Grenada for the title on Thursday at W.V. Brewer Field at 5 p.m.
The Commodores scored their six runs on seven hits, with two players — Hunter Bishop and Drew Davis — each collecting two hits apiece.
Bishop and Davis each drove in two runs for the Commodores, while Jake McPhail, D.K. Buford and Ryan Holland all contributed singles.
Cody Allen earned the win after coming on in relief of starter Austin Arrington. Allen finished with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings and only allowed one hit. Arrington logged 2.2 innings and finished with four strikeouts against four hits. (April 6, 2010, Page 9)
