LHS tennis places second in 2-4A tournament

Three Lafayette High doubles teams qualified for next month’s MHSAA state tournament Thursday with solid showings in the Division 2-4A tournament at Center Hill. The Commodores placed second overall as a team in the tournament.

Ethan Delk and Barron Pruitt won No. 1 boys doubles by defeating Center Hill’s team 6-0, 6-0 and the team from Lewisburg 6-4, 6-0.

The duo is now 10-4 on the year.

Lauren Cullen and Ashley Smith won the No. 1 girls doubles title with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Senatobia and a 6-0, 6-2 win over Center Hill. The duo is now 13-1 on the year.

Katrina Briscoe and Mallory Davis also won a girls doubles title with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Lewisburg, 6-0, 6-1 over Center Hill and then a 6-0, 6-0 win over Center Hill’s No. 1 girls doubles team.

Hunter Knight and Jacob Roberts finished second in boys doubles.  They defeated the team from Lewisburg 6-0, 6-0, Center Hill 6-2, 6-3 and narrowly lost to Lewisburg’s No. 1 team, 1-6, 7-6 6-4.

Brittany Mann and Tyler Odom placed second in mixed doubles, beating Center Hill 6-4, 6-4 before losing 6-4, 6-1 to Lewisburg. LHS will host the first round of the Class 4A playoffs April 23. (April 16, 2010, Page 8a)
