Lafayette baseball got the final week of the regular season off to a good start with a 6-3 win over Byhalia Tuesday night.
The Commodores (13-10 overall, 7-2 in Region 2-4A play) rallied from a 3-1 deficit to post the win behind another solid pitching effort from Jarrett Patton and some clutch hitting provided by Luke McCullough and Josh Mills. McCullough’s RBI-double in the sixth inning put the Commodores ahead to stay, while a two-run single from Patton in the seventh gave the Commodores some insurance runs.
Mills finished with three hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases, while John Jeffrey Nelson and Aaron Cullen each had a doubles in the victory. Hunter Robinson also drove in a run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly.
LHS will be back in action Thursday at home against Byhalia at 6 p.m. It will be the final game of the regular season for the Commodores, who will host at least one Class 4A playoff game next week. (April 21, 2010, Page 9)
