For the second time in the last four games, Ole Miss starting pitchers have gone deep into games without surrendering a hit, but fell just short of tallying the Rebel program’s fifth no-hitter and first since Russ Johnson’s in 1966.
On Friday, Ole Miss ace Drew Pomeranz took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before having it broken up by a bunt single.
During Ole Miss’ 7-2 victory over Southern Miss on Tuesday at Oxford-University Stadium, left-hander Matt Crouse had his bid broken in the top of the sixth when a pop-up from Southern Miss catcher Travis Graves dropped in for a hit between Alex Yarbrough and Miles Hamblin behind the first base bag.
