As Dr. Dan Jones officially takes office as the 16th chancellor in the 162-year history of the University of Mississippi, The Oxford EAGLE is marking the occasion with a special section devoted to Chancellor Jones’ inauguration.
Inside the special section
- In an in-depth interview with Staff Writer Melanie Addington, Jones talks about the challenges of leading the university during uncertain financial times, as well as the meaning behind the theme he chose for his inauguration: “Transformation Through Service.”
- Chancellor Jones outlines his hopes for the university community in his inauguration speech. At the top of his list: Practicing a “spirit of service,” providing leadership that inspires others to serve, and staying focused on the mission of education.
- EAGLE Contributors Jamie Windham and Tori Sawyer take a look at the community service and fundraising activities that university students undertake semester after semester — from collecting school supplies for Delta children, to raising money for a scholarship named in honor of a University Police officer killed in action.
EAGLE photographer Bruce Newman shares more than 40 images of the inauguration event in a photo gallery.
