School Supply Drive

The Graduate Student Council on the campus of the University of Mississippi has teamed up with several organizations on campus and the Mississippi Teachers Corp to sponsor a school supply drive. On April 7 at 6:30 p.m. during the “Family and School Night” at the Ole Miss Baseball game, patrons will receive two general admission tickets for every full bag of school supplies.

As part of this “Rock the Bus” event, organizers hope to fill a school bus with school supplies, all of which will be donated to the Mississippi Teacher Corps teachers. Donations can be in the form of school supplies and/or monetary gifts, which will go toward grants for the teachers in the Mississippi Teacher Corps and scholarships for the students accepted to academic achievement programs. This event has the potential to positively affect the education of nearly 5,000 students receiving public education in classrooms staffed by the Mississippi Teacher Corps. (March 31, 2010)

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been here for this event before and know that it’s not a huge deal compared to the way we cover college sports, but there wasn’t even a story about it in the tabloid I consider the best in the city today.
