Friday night’s game between the No. 8 Florida Gators and No. 17 Ole Miss Rebels lived up to the hype.
In what turned out to be a pitcher’s duel, Ole Miss junior left-hander Drew Pomeranz pitched the Rebels to a 3-2 victory.
In 7.1 innings of work, Pomeranz (4-0) allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out nine.
In the eighth inning righty Brett Huber came into the game in relief of Pomeranz. While he allowed one run in the ninth, he was able to work through a jam to shut out the potent Gators’ offense to pick up his second save of the season.
Florida starter Alex Panteliodis (5-1) was tagged with his first loss of the season, surrendering just three runs on six hits in 7.1 innings. He also struck out eight batters.
The Rebels and Gators will return to action on Saturday, facing off at 6 p.m. at Oxford-University Stadium. The game will be televised on CSS. (March 26, 2010)
