Goforth needs better slider to be effective

By David Goforth’s own admission, he has some work to do to become the closer he knows he can be. Entering this weekend’s series against No. 8 Florida, Goforth is the not-so-proud owner of an 8.49 ERA. That’s not to say Goforth hasn’t had some solid outings, like against Saint Louis on Wednesday where after struggling early in the eighth inning he came back out and struck out the side in the ninth.

But at Kentucky last weekend, the sophomore right-hander was shelled for 10 earned runs in just 1.1 innings. (March 26, 2010, Page 6A)
