One game after Ole Miss plated 15 runs on 19 hits, the Florida Gators returned the favor by routing the Rebels 13-1.
Starting pitcher Trent Rothlin was tagged with the loss for Ole Miss, surrendering four runs on four hits in 2.2 innings. He also struck out one and did not allow a walk.
Brian Johnson, who was originally slated to start on Saturday for Florida, earned the win. In 5.1 innings, Johnson allowed just one run on four hits and four walks.
The Gators offense boasted five players that had multiple hits. Austin Maddox led the team, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Matt den Dekker, Maddox and Jerico Weitzel all hit home runs for Florida.
Ole Miss’ lone run came in the sixth inning, when Kevin Mort scored on a ground out by Matt Smith, bringing the score to 8-1.
Ole Miss will return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Pearl to play Mississippi State in the annual Governor’s Cup game at Trustmark Park. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. (March 28, 2010)
