Audition: Oxford Shakespeare Festival

Auditions for the Oxford Shakespeare Festival’s 2010 "A Royal Season" will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. on the Ole Miss campus, Isom Hall 202/302. Sign-up in hallway beginning at 8:30 a.m. Callbacks will be 1:30 - 5 p.m. that afternoon. The Season will present "The Merry Wives of Windsor" and "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare, and the musical "The King & I" by Rodgers and Hammerstein. Festival performances run from June 11 through July 2. Rehearsals and building begin May 16. Housing provided for hired out-of-town actors and staff. Some of the characters being cast include: Falstaff; Claudius; Gertrude; Polonius; Mistress Quickly; Mistress Ford; Mistress Page; King of Siam; Anna; and many more. Actors auditioning for paid internships or paid principal positions should prepare (memorized) one 2-minute (maximum) Shakespearean monologue and (optional) one complete song (for "The King & I)) from an operetta or musical (bring sheet music). For actors auditioning for the Associate Company (volunteer; one show), cold readings will be available; one complete song is needed for "The King & I" audition. Ole Miss will be offering summer courses in the first summer term that coincide with the Festival. Students can earn credit hours for onstage or backstage work.
